Ergotron Workfit Sit-Stand Workstations To Help The Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge Volunteers Just Stand And Code

Ergotron is donating multiple WorkFit Workstations to improve computing comfort, so coders can get more done for a good cause

St. Paul, MN, March 25, 2011

Ergotron, a global leader in mounting and mobility solutions for computers, laptops, large flat panel displays and TVs, is one of the sponsors for The Nerdery’s fourth annual Overnight Website Challenge on March 26-27 at the University of Minnesota Continuing Conference Center, St. Paul Campus. Ergotron is donating multiple WorkFit-S LCD and Laptop and WorkFit-C LCD and Laptop Sit-Stand Workstations, offering volunteers the opportunity to sit or stand as they prefer throughout the 24-hour website design event. Ergotron is also donating Neo-Flex® Notebook Lift Stands for laptop users, which bring laptop screens to eye-level for a more comfortable computing experience.

“As a company that prides itself on its own nerd quotient (see our Tester Guy on YouTube), Ergotron is thrilled to support The Nerdery’s volunteer efforts for not-for-profit organizations in our community,” said Jane Payfer, chief marketing officer at Ergotron. “We strongly believe no one should hurt while they work on their computer based equipment—whether that is tweeting, blogging, or writing code.”

According to Ergotron’s “Just Stand In The Office Survey” of 1,007 U.S. full-time workers at large companies by Ipsos, about 60 percent surveyed were convinced they would be more productive if they had the option to work on their feet. “This certainly will benefit the volunteers for the Overnight Website Challenge,” said Payfer. “Especially as some will also be using dual displays on the WorkFit units.”

Ergotron’s mission is to help make lives healthier and more productive for computer users everywhere. This is especially critical given the findings of a July 2010 American Cancer Society study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology which suggests that the more people sit, the shorter their average life span. “We’ve seen more-and-more standing Nerds working away at The Nerdery—enough to know that Ergotron’s generous in-kind donations will be put to good use by volunteers going the distance for nonprofits this weekend at The Nerdery Overnight Website Challenge,” said Mark Malmberg, communications manager and co-president at The Nerdery.

In the first three years of The Nerdery’s nonprofit nerdathon, volunteers have freely given over a million dollars worth of professional web development services to 39 nonprofit organizations. This year The Challenge will help 18 non-profit organizations. Find more information about The Nerdery or The Overnight Website Challenge at http://tc2011.overnightwebsitechallenge.com.
