For over 25 years, Ergotron has been dedicated to improving the overall health and well-being of its customers by providing ergonomic mounting solutions for computer and video displays. Understanding the growing concern over goods manufactured in China, Ergotron has taken proactive measures to guarantee all products produced at its dedicated manufacturing facility, M&E, comply with international environmental initiatives.
Many retailers have been scrutinized in recent months over the discovery of dangerous substances found in their products, such as lead paint and antifreeze. In 2005, Ergotron formed a team focused on eliminating every potentially hazardous substance from its product line. As a result, on January 1, 2007, all Ergotron products became compliant with EU Directive 2002/95/EC, Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
Since then, Ergotron has implemented a routine testing program that ensures toxic materials are not used at any time during the manufacturing process, or in the manufacturing process of its suppliers. In July 2007, Ergotron began using a RoHS tester in its China manufacturing facility, adding further assurance that Ergotron products are free from harmful substances.
Ergotron’s current RoHS testing procedure is three-tiered. First, the suppliers are selected based on their ability to supply RoHS compliant products. The supplier is then required to send materials to third party testing labs, where RoHS testing is completed and components are approved. After materials are deemed safe, they are sent to M&E for a final test. Once in the factory, Ergotron has the ability to test every item that comes through the door for RoHS compliance. If something fails, it is sent back to the supplier.
“We require our manufacturing partners to ensure their material choices meet RoHS standards in order to eliminate our worry for human health and environmental contamination,” explained Pete Segar, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Chief Innovation Officer for Ergotron. “We take our environmental policy very seriously and we have procedures in place to test and verify that all materials adhere to our strict environmental standards.”
“Our commitment to the health and well-being of our customers is ongoing,” continued Dan Miller, Senior Vice President of Operations for Ergotron. “We own and run M&E, our dedicated manufacturing facility in China, which enables us to be diligent in our testing of materials in order to comply with worldwide regulations, and to ensure our products remain free of harmful substances. As international laws evolve, so will our processes.”
