Mechanical Design Engineer

Eagan, Minnesota, USA

Position Summary

Responsible for design of new OEM and/or commercial products. This includes product design, cost reduction and problem solving activities for new and existing products. Activities include solid model development, drafting, creating prints, bills of materials, and product documentation in Oracle. Works with all departments within the company to insure that requirements are met.
Position Responsibilities include:
Creates new and innovative products, product enhancements or new technologies to meet market needs. Works closely with product managers, sales and customers to understand product requirements. Performs design engineering projects assuring that quality, reliablility, serviceability, safety, cost/performance objectives are established and met. Works with vendors to coordinate prototyping activities and to insure design expectations are met. Performs all necessary stress and motion calculations required. Ensures that designs meet the structural and ergonomic requirements as defined by the customer and any state and federal regulations. Participates in regular design reviews to assure that designs meet required specifications. Works closely with manufacturing, quality control and purchasing for the implementation of new products. Reviews all documentation for design feasibility and accuracy. Keeps abreast of new design, manufacturing and material development practices.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

Experience working with engineering documentation 5 years experience in engineering design environment. BS in Mechanical Engineering. Advanced engineering degree desirable. 5 plus years experience in areas of machine design, sheet metal, injection molding and welding desirable. Clear understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, welding, injection molding, extrusion and casting. Knowledge of engineering practices and documentation methods including bills of material and engineering change orders. Self motivated, creative and capable of handling and prioritizing multiple projects. Proficient in Excel, Word, project management software and SolidWorks (or other 3D parametric modeling software).
